Information Technology & GIS Mapping

The GEF and USAID grants will also be used to enhance the information technology that supports LakeNet's global network. LakeNet is making improvements to this website and online databases and has established computer-based mapping capabilities using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The GIS mapping activities are focused on creating a web-based atlas of the world's lakes and on implementing pilot projects to demonstrate the use of GIS mapping in the management of two key lake basins: Lake Sevan in Armenia and Lake Issyk-kul in Kyrgyzstan.
