USAID-funded Technical Assistance
With a grant from USAID, LakeNet and Saint Michael's College of Vermont provided additional technical assistance in lake basin management and biodiversity conservation. The technical assistance program was designed to strengthen the capacity of people and organizations working to protect and restore the health of lakes, especially in developing countries. The following seven countries were targeted for this program: Armenia, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Nicaragua and the Philippines. On-the-ground technical assistance activities were conducted in each of these countries.
The technical assistance activities were designed to strengthen local and/or country-wide lake protection and restoration activities. The projects also laid the groundwork for future activities in these areas and for similar activities around the world.
