Migratory birds begin arriving at the Ottuk State Reserve, designated by the Ramsar Convention as a Wetland of International Importance, in late fall to spend the winter on Lake Issyk-kul, a lake which does not freeze.
Priship State Reserve on Lake Issyk-kul is home to many medicinal herbs and is part of a network or protected areas around the lake.
